Businesses Get Creative in Campbell River

There is no question businesses are facing a challenge of their life. It is incredible how quickly things can change and how all over the world, no one is unaffected.

But this weekend I was so impressed with how many of our local businesses have pivoted their business model so that they can continue to serve the community. Before writing about those experiences, I would like to point out that all businesses should carefully review notices from the Office of the Provincial Health Officer to make sure that they are in compliance.

For example, on Friday night an ad from Crow’s Nest Artist Collective popped up on my Facebook page. For those of you who haven’t discovered the artist in you (that would be me), Crow’s Nest offers art classes and supplies. Social distancing is tough for an extrovert like me so I decided that I should learn some new skills. I ordered a kit and by the next afternoon it was delivered to my front porch via free shipping. Other businesses making changes to reflect the current challenge are restaurants. My husband and I are celebrating our anniversary this week. We had planned an evening out but of course that isn’t possible and we are very serious about embracing physical distancing in order to stamp out COVID-19. It was cool to see how quickly Ox Restaurant switched from traditional table service to take out. Even more impressive was to see how serious the restaurant takes precautions. When I arrived I saw a large, clearly printed sign telling customers there’s room for only one customer at a time and everyone is required to be spaced 2 metres apart. When I got to the table, right inside the entrance, I saw the debit/credit machine, the table and all surfaces sprayed down between customers. I felt confident picking up my order. Check out Ox here: https://www.ox-ybl.com/

And finally for this post, today I saw another business make the change from in-person retail, to online. Wise & Wonderful Toys has launched a new, online site to continue serving our community while we physically distance. You can visit Wise & Wonderful Toys’ new site to shop locally, online here: https://www.northislandgames.ca/

This is just 3 examples. I know there are many other local businesses open for business, they just might look different than before.

Again, please make sure you are regularly reviewing all notices from the Office of the Provincial Health Officer.
