Shop Local for Mother’s Day

Mother’s Day is just around the corner.  Many people celebrate this special day by going out to brunch, buying bouquets of flowers and a special gift to show mom that you appreciate everything that she does.  This year, due to the pandemic, Mother’s Day may look a little different, but that does not mean you skip out on brunch, flowers and a gift – because this year, Mom has stepped up big time taking on some additional roles that may include teacher, scheduling assistant to the kids, cook, cleaner, activity director, screen time police and some are pulling this off all while working!  (Dad, we appreciate all you do as well, you will get your day soon!)

Here are some great ways to put a twist on the Mother’s Day favorites this year by shopping local and supporting your neighborhood businesses while playing by the pandemic rules.

Preparing brunch can be something that you and the kids do together while mom sleeps in, goes for a walk or run or reads her book in bed.  You can pick up some great cooking supplies from your local grocer – most are doing online orders with the option of delivery or curbside pickup.  If cooking is not your thing, there are many restaurants that have pivoted to takeout. The weather is supposed to be nice so set up that brunch in the backyard to make it something special and different from the kitchen table!

Brunch is not complete without a special blend coffee or tea.  “The Campbell River Black Tea” blend is very popular – it was created by five locals to capture the taste and feel of Campbell River, you cannot go wrong with choosing this locally inspired blend” states owner Christine Lilyholm.  Stonehouse teas along with other coffee roasters in town offer online ordering and curbside or drive through pickup.

Flowers will add a nice touch to the brunch picnic table and will remind mom all week of the amazing day she had.  Campbell River Custom Floral has the last minute Mother’s day flowers covered while allowing people to pick that special custom designed bouquet for mom “We are offering a Pop-up shop outside of our retail location from 11-3pm on Saturday and Sunday – you can smell the flowers and pick that special something while being outside in the fresh air” stated Bern Henery.

If you wish to get Mom a little something extra, Campbell River retailers are also offering phone or online shopping and delivery or curbside pickup. Many business owners such as Jane at Coho books will be taking orders for delivery up until Friday so do not delay!  Not sure what to get mom, the shops are all open to having you call to discuss your ideas and price point and will help you pick that special gift.

For your ease of online shopping, Destination Campbell River has put together a list of businesses and services that are open and have links directly to their websites and contact information. This way you do not have to spend hours google searching each one to formulate your Mother’s Day plan.
