Partners come together to Foster Investment
Spring Activator’s Impact Investor Challenge is coming to Campbell River in April to support the growth of local startups and stimulate economic development.
Campbell River, British Columbia, 11 February, 2021—On a mission to attract technological innovation to small communities across British Columbia, Salmon Capital Holdings, LTDTM (SCHL) is kicking off their efforts in the firm’s new home base of Campbell River by partnering with Spring Activator to run the region’s first Impact Investor Challenge from April through June of this year. Impact investing emphasizes a measurable, beneficial social or environmental impact alongside a financial return.
The Challenge will be a 2-month program facilitated by Spring Activator, guiding early-stage and impact-curious investors into impact investing and preparing local entrepreneurs to be investment-ready. Interested parties will learn how to evaluate prospective investments in emerging startups in and around Campbell River and throughout British Columbia. Investor registrants do not need to be accredited investors to participate in the Challenge. Participating entrepreneurs will gain unique insights into the mindset of investors, and will have a chance to compete for an investment award. A minimum of $50,000 of investment funding will be awarded to the winning startup by the investor cohort.
“Salmon Capital Holdings was created to help bring investment and innovation to Campbell River and other small to mid-sized B.C. communities,” explains Dana Kammersgard, SCHL’s Managing Director. “To develop innovation and startups in any area, you need local investment. This Challenge, offered by Spring Activator, is aligned with Campbell River’s NexStream 2.0 startup stream, presenting prospective investors with the opportunity to invest in and help grow some very exciting new companies.”
"This program is a natural complement to the many initiatives that support and expand the use of technology locally," says Rose Klukas, Economic Development Officer with the City of Campbell River. "These growing partnerships continue to raise Campbell River's profile as a community that welcomes leading edge technology and all the potential this brings for innovation in our community."
“Spring is thrilled to work with Salmon Capital and the City of Campbell River to support the growing investor community in the region,” states Mari Mathews, Program Director for impact investor training programs at Spring Activator. “Our hopes are that the Challenge will provide a stepping stone towards funding innovative businesses as key contributors to the local economy.”
“I participated in a similar program offered by Spring Activator in Vancouver,” says Andreas Hagen, a local Campbell River Area investor. “I have continued to engage with investors and companies from that program and now have a network of individuals to whom I can go for advice and additional investment opportunities. I'm excited to take part in the program generously offered by Salmon Capital Holdings; it will undoubtedly grow our emerging community of investors and investable opportunities in a way that is connected to activities throughout the rest of the province."
