SPOTLIGHT ON MUSSELS & MORE POTTERY

It’s Small Business Week (Oct. 17-23), a national celebration that shines the spotlight on Canadian entrepreneurs and all they contribute to our economies and communities. Throughout the week, we’ll be sharing stories of some of Campbell River’s entrepreneurs and businesses.

Today we’re getting to know . . .

Mussels & More Pottery

You’ll find this beautiful, family-owned pottery and gift shop in Campbellton. It was founded by Jan and Mike Sell, who started the business in their kitchen and grew it into the highest volume-producing pottery studio in Canada. Daughter Erin and son-in-law Blair are integral parts of the Mussels & More team, participating in all aspects of the business.

“Being family-run is a big part of why we have been so successful,” says Jan.

Jan fell in love with pottery more than 40 years ago, and created Mussel & More’s signature mussel-shell dish. The line of seashell dishes now includes dinnerware, serving bowls, mugs and platters. The business also boasts a beautiful gift shop, which has become a destination for people visiting Campbell River. Mussels & More Pottery continues to make a name for itself across Canada and internationally; their handmade products can be found in stores throughout North America, and they continue to receive orders and ship items to customers around the world.

“We love that we can bring attention to Campbell River, and to Campbellton,” says Jan. “We love this place and want to help other people love it, too.”
