Support Locals - Shop Local
When the Circuit Breaker PHO restrictions went into place last month, the Economic Development team wanted to help out local businesses. Within a matter of days, we turned around a social media campaign to draw attention to local businesses, who needed support. The concept was simple — give the businesses something that draws attention and is easy to execute. As residents were advised to stay local, we partnered with Destination Campbell River to secure some amazing staycation prizes, and created a contest that offers customers the chance to win prizes if they post pictures of their local purchases online — with the hashtag #naturallycampbellriver — to draw attention to local businesses.
We decided that stickers were the quickest way to spread the word. Businesses could put them on packages or receipts, or people could wear them on their shirts as badges of pride.
Having a seven-year-old, I know that kids love their stickers … but who knew that adults love them just as much? The joy that I saw on the faces of business owners every time I dropped off more stickers was inspiring. It’s great to see people connecting over a simple sticker on a cup of coffee or a takeout container, especially during the pandemic.
Close to 80 retailers and service providers are currently participating in the campaign. We’ve given them a total of 25,000 locally-printed stickers to hand out to customers. Here is a list that’s current as of today — but that may change by tomorrow, as there are still two weeks left in the campaign and plenty of time for others to join in on the fun!
